I think you stopped one model too early. ;-) The 650 fixed a lot of
problems of the earlier models. Probably its biggest "lack" is lack of
wifi. But I'm using the PalmOS Treo 650. It's quite snappy, especially
with a lot of the smaller apps I use. I "replaced" the built-in apps
with TakePHOne, Datebook, todo and memo apps with KSDateBook/KSTodo
and PSMemo, and use Switch5 to do app switching. and recently, TealOS
(a WebOS "replacement") for other things. If I used some of Hobbyist
software, things would probably go even more swimmingly. Add these and
Palm's amazing Texting app (threaded texting isn't an Apple
innovation. They got that idea from Palm) ;-), and my essential
third-party apps, and the 650's long battery life, and I don't need to
carry any computer with me until I need to do web. That's why I bought
my MSI Wind (and dropped Leopard into it). I don't have a data plan on
my phone, so tethering isn't important to me. Is it perfect? Well, not
really, but it is amazingly simple, and does what I need, for the most
part. However, it is very old, and worn out. I will need to replace it
someday. As of yet, there is nothing to replace it but the Centro...
And I don't know if I want to spend money on the Garnet OS. I'm
waiting to see what apps come to the WebOS...
