Apologies if you get this more than once. It seems that this list
(silently) rejects messages deemed too long so I've removed all quoted
material.

Input systems such as handwriting recognition are, I predict, the key
to truly innovative mobile computing in the near future. We already
have a century or so experience with "speed writing" or shorthand if
you prefer. I can easily imagine a Newton sized device taking input
in the form of shorthand and recording that as text in many
languages. 300 wpm is not impossible with speed writing.

The hardware and software to do this would be relatively easy as
compared with the wetware part of this challenge. Wetware is a
reference to humans who are basically water contained in a lot of
little bags called "cells." It makes a nice symmetrical reference
point.

So Pogo was right, "We have seen the enemy and the enemy is us."

Would you learn shorthand if that enabled you to write 100-200 wpm on
a mobile device?

Did anyone ever mess with shorthand on the Newton?

On the other hand, I could be wrong about the future. It could well
be that writing and reading will fade as audio/video recording becomes
our primary mode of communication. Everything will be done on YouTUBE
et. al.
