@ Rafael: the backlight and touchscreen are separate. Once you have the Newton apart, the 2x00 backlight slips in easily behind the touchscreen.
I bought two from Calvin in January—one white, one green. No problems; he seems like a nice guy. He should still have a couple white backlights. I believe he is responsible for the replacement, improved touchscreens, which I haven't tried. Knowledge Navigator may also have replacement backlights.

Between the two, the white is easier to read while the green is brighter. I prefer the white backlight and kept the green as a backup. If he's out of green and you need it, I'd be willing to sell it off list. I also have a blue spare, though at half luminosity and a spare, clean touchscreen w/ a couple, small nicks.
