I turn wifi off on my iPhone when I don't need it.  That goes for bluetooth too.  This does save battery life.  I can get a whole day.

With wifi turned on, the iPhone will be seeking out hotspots every, about, 20 seconds.

Just a tip.


But with a tablet, there's lots more room for a battery.  Let's take my MacBook Air.  I get about 2.5 hours solid, heavy use off the battery.  Not bad for something so incredibly thin and light.
