[NTLK] iPad - Just try it...

The 'Doc Clu' is mirroring my experience too.

I hated the idea that Apple would release a non-core Mac OS device, back when the first iPod 5GB. came out. Jokers complained that the iPod should run Mac OS 8 or 9 or X.
I was wrong. It has become a useful yet simple device. I didn't 'like' it until I got one almost free from citibank, a iPod Mini. After that I've owned three ipods.

Then when Apple introduced the iPhone, I laughed at it too. I had the tmobile dash by htc, an awesome smartphone.
Until I saw my geeky friends using the iPhone in person. If they liked it, then what was I missing???
So when my tmobile contract ended, I jumped on the 3G iPhone. I got the 3GS a week after it came out, at a premium price(good thing I sold some aapl stock to cover the costs of it). Sold the dash, I didn't need it anymore, it was a smartphone that didn't fit MY needs as well as the iPhone 3G did.
I had the Motorola Q from verizon, still didn't add up to the iPhone 3G(but i miss that led light/flash).

Owning the aapl stock and the way apple has changed it's business model helped me to understand the devices that apple releases...and to understand how their stock moves. So I'm enjoying the aapl stock movement and the products that apple sells, that's how apple's business flows and grows.
So many of my geeky friends have thrown away netbooks in the past year or so, looks like the iPad will take over and improve their lives and help switch them over to the Mac even faster. $J/apple is winning.

But I'll wait for the cam, sim -> microsim hack, and a verizon based one. :P

>Not replying directly to Matej, I just wanted to get into the thread to share a simple observation. I'm always amazed at how opinionated people can be as regards to a device they *haven't even held in their hands*. And I'm also amazed at how many people (not only here) seem to be seeing just the trees (*their* trees) and not the forest. Judging iPad for just what you have seen so far is unfair and myopic. ....

>I have seen a lot of that going on. I would have to say to any would-be haters out there, hold your opinion till you have a chance to go to an electronics store and actually try one out for a few minutes.

>I remember in 1993 I was at Incredible Universe in Dallas and someone at the entrance to an area said "Would you like to try out the Newton?"
>
>The Newton did not have Mac OS (as everyone here knows excellently well) so I was not impressed with the Newton at first. I tried drawing a hypercube on the screen, thought it was cool enough, just not $600 cool, or whatever the Newton 100 was going for at the time.
>
>Later my dad got me a Newton as a birthday gift. I thought it was cute enough and a gift from dad, so I started to use it.
>
>When the Newton 2000 came out, I didn't know what to think. I was happy with my Newton 110, the Newton 2000 seemed REALLY cool by what I heard of it, but was it $1000 cool?
>
>So I went to the Dallas Apple store. I tried out the Newton 2000, and I was just blown away!! It was so far compared to the Newton 110. The notes opened so quickly, they had the Simpson movie demo on it, I was just in love!!
>
>Moral of the story, TRY IT. You never know. Maybe it will confirm everything you thought about it negatively, maybe you will walk away with a whole new opinion.
