I will chime in here and say that I ran a MessagePad 2100 NPDS Server from 1998 or so up until last year, with interruptions. It was awesome being part of the NPDS community, especially when Paul Guyot was actively developing the suite and relying on a small but committed group of users who provided feedback that guided the development of an amazing handheld web server. Grant Hutchinson also deserves credit for his html contributions and for defining what an NPDS server could do.

I used my NPDS server to blog about strange music, the Newton OS, Apple II experiments, and other random matters. It was a good blogging environment built upon Newton's Notes package.

I wrote some good documentation about using NPDS, all of which is available at the NPDS site:

I finally took my NPDS server down and perhaps preserved the hardware by not running it 24/7 sometime last year, around the Y2010 issue. Nobody was posting to it, and it was another thing to maintain that perhaps there was no interest in besides my own.

If you are interested in getting NPDS running on your MessagePad 2100, please join the NPDS list at:

There's a bunch of old Newton freaks there who have been there and done that and are happy to help.

Cheers,

Josh
