Hello, Scott:
I'm happy that you're on your way to solving your power issues.
The WS is a fine machine, and the black G3s are my favorite Apple laptops.
As to your question, I've done a few things with mine, a $1.00
(plus reasonable shipping) find on eBay. It already had a 6 GB HDD, OS
9.2.2 and a lot of music editing and scientific software, as a former
owner was either a student or a prof at Brown U., and needed only the
battery (it had a Zip and CD drive) and one piece of software to go with
MS Office 2001 (I had that on CD) that lets Word and Excel open .docx
and .xlsx files. It has wifi, courtesy of a Dell TruMobile 1150 card I
had on-hand.
What I plan to do, perhaps at Christmas, is to put in a 40 GB SSD
that OtherWorld Computing sells, re-load OS 9, partition and dual-boot
with Yellow Dog Linux. If I can find a faster processor than the 266
Mhz one it has at a reasonable, price, I may - may - go for that. The
only other thing I lack is a floppy drive, which will turn up on eBay
eventually.
It's my intent to use the WS as my daily computer for at least 30
days to see if a computer that vintage can still perform.
I hope that yours gives you pleasure and good service, too, Scott.
Regards,
-Lloyd

Hi Lloyd! I bit the bullet and ordered a new main battery as well as a
new PRAM battery. I needed a new main battery anyway, so I figured I
might as well. I changed the PRAM battery once before a long time ago
and remember that it wasn't a fun job, but not impossible. I had all but
forgotten about iFixit - that's a really neat website with lots of cool
stuff. I'll definitely keep you posted! Have you done any cool mods to
your WallStreet? I was debating on putting in a bigger HDD and
partitioning it to run an old version of OSX... Take care! Scott
