Dennis:

I was hopeful that I would be able to report to you that yes, indeed, a Mac running El Capitan could connect thru a Keyspan USA-28 to a Newton. But that is not the case—at least, for me.

I recently downgraded my MacBook Pro from Sierra back to El Capitan. I’ve been meaning to try to connect the Newton again, and this seemed to be a good time.

Sadly I got three successive Kernel Panics in a row by connecting the Keyspan device (I have the USA-28X B). This without even having opened NCX yet. Just before the third one I located and started up the Keyspan Serial Assistant, which did start up and run. It reported that there were no devices attached, despite that I had the 28X connected. I disconnected it and seconds later got the third Kernel Panic.

Sorry that I have nothing better to report. I’ll probably investigate this, but it won’t be anytime soon.

Mahalo,
Forrest
