Old news for most of you perhaps, but I found replacement NiMH tabbed AA 2500mHa batteries at $4.85 each (in-store) at http://www.marvac.com

Using the excellent instructions found at:
https://www.pda-soft.de/english.html

I was able to remove the original NiMH batteries and replace them with little more than electrical tape, a soldering iron and hot glue. I skipped on the heat shrink tubing.
