[NTLK] Zoom session for eMate hinge fix

I agree with Frank. While my list of tools is not as long as Frank’s, I have also repaired precisely ONE eMate, and he has done many times that.

I found that soaking the hinge parts in full-strength ZEP Industrial Strength Degreaser for about 12 hours completely removed all traces with no scrubbing (but I did anyway, to be certain). It’s available at Home Depot stores. (Be careful, it is very powerful stuff and will damage skin that is exposed to it.)

There are many steps; and while I would not consider any to be all that complicated, the number of them could slow down the overall process. In my view, the one that requires the most time and effort is repairing the existing springs. I used Joel’s method, with vice grips and lineman’s pliers (as they are both known here in the US).

Of course, if we craft and utilize PCBMan’s version, that step is eliminated in favor of that creation.

Perhaps a YouTube video is a better choice—I would bet there are several in existence already (but are they CORRECT in the procedure?).

Mahalo,
Forrest
