I don't think I've ever seen details of the IR hardware for any of the 
MessagePads or eMate.

IIRC, the eMate supported both IrDA and Sharp ASK, unlike the earlier 
generation MessagePads.   Does anyone have an eMate motherboard handy, 
and is able to check the IR transceiver markings?
