I recommend WorksWrite (it is free, afaik) instead, which makes works behave
like the notepad. from the readme:

WorksWrite for Newton 2.1

Version 1.01

An extension for Newton 2.1 which adds handwriting recognition to the
NewtonWorks word processor or ≥Paper≤.

The following standard recognition features are supported:

- Text handwriting recognition
- Single character overwrite
- Double tap for the word list (spell check and ink versions)
- Punctuation popup with an extra keyboard icon by tapping on the caret
- Horizontal line to insert a page break

Requires Newton 2.1 Operating System.
