Is this a new phenomenon or has it always done it?
Heat is generally produced during the charging process of rechargeable
batteries. I've seen the Newt's battery area get quite warm. Some
PCMCIA card such as modems or Ethernet can produce a fair amount of heat
too. It's not a problem so long as there is ventilation, usually, so
the heat can dissipate. Also, are you charging a spare set of batts
underneath the Newt? That would add to the heat.
Try charging it using the power adapter directly and see if you also get
the heat. Try a different set of batts. See if there is any difference.
If not, you're probably ok.
