If HWR on the Newton doesn't work..the best HWR ever invented...then
probably you're not gonna have any luck anywhere else. You might have to
consider:
a) training yourself to write more clearly; tough I know. I recall you
had a 2x00 unit. Did you try both the printed and cursive recognizers?
They are VERY different and I find that printed recognizer is 99%
accurate for me. I can even write web site URLs with perfect accuracy
most of the time.
b) using something like Grafitti or Jot (on the Newton or whatever
platform) that's a sort of simplified stroke recognizer/shorthand. I
personally hate them and find them WORSE than the Newton's HWR, but some
people swear by it. I use both a Newton 2100 and a Palm IIIx every day
and I can't stand Grafitti. Grafitti was originally created by Palm for
the Newton for folks who's handwriting couldn't be recognized by the
Newton...and then created the Palm PDAs and included it there too. (So
every Palm owner OWES the Newton! Bigtime!)
And my newton rechargeable last me 2-3 DAYS (not hours) of normal use
with the backlight on ALL the time.
