I use rechargeable batts., I get this problem once in a while, maybe once a month.
Racked my brains on this.
Answer: Rechargeable batts. are a little shorter than reg. batts.
Contacts were not contacting(?) :-o
Therefore, reinserting moves batts. around, and since the capacitor has used up it's store of energy, the clock and date settings have been reset.
