No, they didn't, exactly. They bought the rights (from Paragraph/Vadem,
NOT Apple) to a more recent version of the Calligrapher cursive
recognizer used in the Newton.
Apple's internally developed (and much better) printed HWR recognizer
available in NewtonOS 2.x is still solely Apples/Newtons.
