You actually don't need NIE 2.0 for the ethernet connection, just the
ethernet packages that come with it, will also work without any version of
NIE installed.
True that NIE 1 saves you some space but it isn't always as reliable or it
doesn't support all protocols in the same way, in my experience I couldn't
connect with some providers with NIE 1, replaced it with NIE 2 and things
would be hunky dory.
