Kudos to Simon Bell for giving us yet another major upgrade to our favourite email pkg. For those who had to live with the memory loss issue of SM4.0, this is good news indeed. Download at < http://ds.dial.pipex.com/simple > and send Simon a word of appreciation.
SimpleMail 4.1 gives you the standard functions you'd expect from a text e-mailer, plus:
• MIME compliance, enabling you to send and receive attachments
• Send packages to and from other Newtons and your desktop

• Receive and play back audio in four different formats
• Receive and view JPEG and GIF images
• Filters

What's New Since 4.0
The Functional
• No more lost store memory.
SM4.0 makes 1-2K per message unavailable to the system when filtering is enabled. This can lead to a significant loss of store memory. Backup, hard reset and/or erase card, and restore to reclaim the memory lost by SM4.0.
• Messages are not re-filed after being read.
This feature is activated automatically when you open the filing filter in SimpleMail's Prefs. After this the 'File read items in' button indicates 'Unfiled' but this is not strictly correct. If you choose a folder to 'File read items in' then normal filing is resumed.
• Reply-To address can be specified.
Enter an address in a worksite SimpleMail setup.
• Status header is recognised.
Choose to Receive 'unread items' in the Filter prefs. This enables you to receive only items that you have not been seen in any e-mail client. This will only work if your POP server provides a Status header.
• Abbreviated messages can be downloaded in full.
Tap the 'Read in full' item in the Tag button picker to mark an abbreviated message for full download at next login.
• 'Strip internet headers' preference works differently.
All messages are now decoded. If 'Strip internet headers' is unchecked an Envelope item is added to a message's Part picker. Tapping this shows the original message headers.
• The Part button has moved to the button bar.
This allows more room for the message itself.
• An accented character appearing at the end of the Subject no longer causes an exception when sending.
• Scheduled Delivery is silent.
There is no 'You have [no] mail' alert as a result of scheduled download.
• Paper Stationery always respects your mail font preference.
The Frivolous
• X-Face header is recognised.
This requires the Face Decoder package. Tap the From: button in the info slip to see the sender's face.
• 'You have mail' can be spoken.
This requires Apple's TextToSpeech package. Tap the Text item in the 'You have mail' picker and enter a phrase to be spoken when you have received mail.
