Geeze. I'm beginning to be sorry that I ever started that thread.
I was simply musing that that the Pippin touchscreen & keyboard did look
rather SIMILAR to the eMate in terms of the design, size/portability, and
keyboard layout.
While it may not be the PROTOTYPE, certainly, one could argue that nothing
exists in a vacuum. Just as Apple has borrowed design & technology
attributes from others, it also stands to reason that they would look within
their own past design blunders and successes for future innovations.
The eMate, for instance, was Apple's first evidence of playfulness with
translucent plastics. And later, out comes the iMac, iBook, G-3 & G-4
towers, then grape, lime, tangerine, blueberry, and strawberry phones,
swivel chairs, printers, cameras, TV's, stereos, portable tape & CD players,
keyboards, mice, monitors, non-Apple computers, joysticks, gamepads,
speakers, alarm clocks, garbage cans, microwaves, toasters, scanners,
walkie-talkies, picture frames, furniture, cups, plates, bowls,
toothbrushes, PDA's, et cetera, et cetera.
I'd say that there's PROBABLY some connection there. *chuckle*
Now, whether or not Apple was consciously looking at the Pippin's optional
keyboard & screen & saying, "now, how can we combine the Newton with THIS?"
is not readily known.
But it's certainly not an incredible leap to say that Apple made something
similar 4 years previously that may have mildly (or strongly, depending upon
your viewpoint) influenced the design team when they created the eMate.
Again....just musing.
:-)
