If you use a tilted desk stand while surfing the net, I would say it is
the convection inside the Newton which warms up the display more even
distributed. I had a similar effect with my MP2k1 which got hotter at
the bottom and more contrast in this region, due to shadow on the top
half of the display. I found that there is a sort of glass house effect
under the display.
