There's a reason for this sharp disagreement among users whether their
Newton is actually green or black. If you check the serial number on the
back of your Newton (2000/2100 series), you can determine whether you
actually purchased a "special edition" Newton.
Unbeknownst to most of the public, this Newton changes color when you hold
it, depending on how you feel at the time. Hence, its moniker, the "Mood
Noot".
For example, if you feel envious that you can't buy anymore new Newton
programs and are considering on purchasing a Palm where such programs
flourish, your Newton turns green. If you do the sensible thing and hang
onto your Newton and not invest a lot of money in another platform but
rather keep your checkbook in the black, your Newton turns black.
This is a little documented feature that cost much for Apple to implement
and is considered the one reason the Newton failed to turn Apple a profit.
