That's basically what I had with the MP120 of my son. There died 2 of
the 4 AA NiCd cells. I ripped off the clued Alu-plates of the accu pack
and replaced the cells with 4 NiMH Varta brand cells. From that point
everything was fine and the MP120 charged the NiMH's just fine and it
looks that it runs longer now. Anyway, defective accus (e.g. 2 of 4
having 0 V) pull down the adaptor voltage and avoid supplying enough
current to the MP120.
