You did the right steps to configure the thing, apparently. I think your card is
not working. I use an EtherWave from Farallon and as soon as I tap the Connect
button in the Dock, the LED on the cable turns on. However, you're reporting
that at no time the LED did come on. But, take note of this: I could be wrong!
If, for some reason, the card isn't properly recognized by your Newton, it may
well be normal that the LED won't come on, since the cable is plugged in the
card, which is supposed to be controlled by your MP.

The best way to know for sure would be to try it in a notebook. If there are
other users of this card on the list, they should be able to help.

Now, some questions I have:

Are you sure you did install the full NIE packages set? That should be NIE
itself, Newton Devices and NIE Ethernet, at a minimum. If you ever want to use
PPP to dial-in, you should make sure that you also have NIE Modem & Serial. Plus
any driver that Victor has on his site, but this, you already have. Also make
sure that you install everything in the internal memory. Some packages assume
that related packages are already loaded when it's their turn to load. Usually,
you will get an error message, but not always. If you make sure that everything
is on the internal store, then there are more chance it will work.

Also, I don't think I've read in any of your message what was happening when you
insert the Ethernet card. If you remove it, then install it, what happen? The MP
should display a dialog that a communication card has been inserted.

For now, that's everything I could think of. Let us know the outcome.

Good luck!

-Laurent.
