Paul,

My first thought, after reading your problem, was: this looked like he's trying
to use Newton Connection Kit with his 2000. So, my first question to you would
be: are you sure that you're trying to use Newton Connection Utilities?

Don't start your Mac with extensions off, as I do remember that communication
tools are not loaded, and NCU uses the Communication Toolbox to communicate with
your MP. Instead, make a small set of extensions in Extension Manager and
restart your Mac.

Next, I would suggest you do a re-install of NCU (make sure it's not NCK!). Make
sure you install everything. Restart your Mac. Make sure you remove any Newton
Connection Utilities file that may lie in your Preferences folder before
launching NCU after the install.

You're not specifying what kind of physical connection you have between your MP
and your Mac. That might be useful to know in order to troubleshoot your
problem.

Finally, you're saying "erased the Newton completely". Does that mean you did a
"hard reset" (AKA brain wipe)?

-Laurent.
