I thought this might be of interest to anyone trying to identify their
Farallon cards:
Note that the Newton compatible models are codes 47, 49(?), 56(?) <--
anyone care to edit this list?
>From the Farallon website:
Every Ethernet card has a hardware address permanently burned in to it, a
twelve digit hexadecimal number that can be used to identify the
manufacturer, and in the case of Farallon products the specific product.
Printed on a sticker on one of the chips or printed on the back of a PCMCIA
card you will find a number with the format 00:00:C5:XX:ZZ:ZZ.
The first six digits identify the manufacturer. "00:00:C5" indicates
Farallon. If the first six digits are something else the Ethernet card was
not made by Farallon. You can identify the manufacturer by consulting a list
of Ethernet vendor IDs such as
http://www.cavebear.com/CaveBear/Ethernet/vendor.html
On a Farallon card the seventh and eighth digits, "XX" in the example above,
indicate which Farallon product it is. Consult the following table:
