This generally means that the cable to the backlight has been disconnected
or broken. Some have opened their Newts and fixed it. I opened mine and
got nervous. I dropped mine had the same thing happen. I'm now waiting for
enough problems to accumulate that its work sending the Newt to apple for
their $200 repair.
