Indeed the mapmaking procedure seems difficult, but as you say it's a
question of experience. As mapsize will matter (have a 12MB with some 9MB
free) I guess that I'll have to go the way you explained: an overview map
with less detail (eg Europe) and a more detailed one of the region I'm
visiting.
