I am screwed!...I am in way over my head...HELP
I've been trying to connect mp2100 with a new pIII PC for weeks...but will spare details about past...
NOW i've downloaded NCU from (what was it?..Newtoncage, I believe) and installed it. When i restarted windows98, screen froze before starting up windows....with the following error message:
"A device has been specified more than once in the SYSTEM.INI file, or a device specified in SYSTEM.INI conflicts with a device which is being loaded by an MS DOS device or application, or a device loading from the registry file. Remove the duplicate entry from the SYSTEM.INI file and then restart windows.
Duplicate device: VCD"
Trembling, i restarted in DOS, and from my meager memory of it, from the windows directory entered:
Edit SYSTEM.INI
When i scrolled through all the lines of this file, i think i found the problem area, but i have no idea what to do to get windows running correctly again:
;VCD--virtual serial port driver used by TSI Products
device=*VCD ( i've used an asterik here, but it looks more like a star)
;VID--virtual interrupt driver used by TSI Products
devicec:\newton\tsivid.386
{nonwindowappl}
Somebody please help me...do i just erase all of this...i can't find a "duplicate VCD" anywhere in the list.
at this point i just want to get back to where i started before i tried getting my newton to talk to my pc.
is there an uninstall for the ncu? since it appears to be a non-windows application, i guess it has to be removed in DOS
i'm standing by for more info...i feel like karen black trying to land the 747 in Airport 85
