Are you using the right serial cable to connect to your PC? If so, check the coms settings. Should be at 38400, on COM1 or COM2, depending on which you're using. On the Newton, the
setting in the Dock/Connect app should be Serial. You can try lower speed to see if that works, but I would be a wrong cable. Of course, I don't know so I might be dead wrong for the
cable ;-)

BTW, you won't be able to use your iMac with your serial cable. Starting with the iMac, no Macintosh computers have a serial port anymore. You would need to get a USB-Serial adapter,
like KeySpan, or go ethernet if you had a MP2x00 or eMate, but since I think I remember that the Schlumberger was a MP1x00 clone, the ethernet route won't work. So, you will have to get
a USB-Serial adapter in the end.
