Outgoing vice president for Apple Europe, Diego Piacentini, recently gave
further insight into the company's decision making including the demise of
the Newton.
In a farewell dinner in Milan, Italy February 24 with the PowerBook Owners
Club, Piacentini claimed that if the Newton handheld device had not been
cancelled, the iMac might never have been developed.
"...it was the matter of concentrating on fewer single winning projects and
leave out all useless costly development and engineering charges to bring
back Apple into profit and technological leadership," an online article by
MacProf.com stated.
