It would be newton-related if he had trouble printing to the printer, but that
was not the question. Should I bring up issues with my car not working because
I use my newton in my car? Of course not.

Ethernet cards working with newtons is on topic, ethernet cards working with
other devices is not. He never mentioned anything about his newton interacting
with his printer. Indeed, that's not the problem. The issue is completely
unrelated unless he's getting error messages while trying to print.

As I tried to point out in my response, he's MUCH more likely to find a quick
and *correct* response to his question if he posts his question to a group
devoted to the subject such as apple's tech exchange or groups like
comp.sys.mac.printers. I was trying to help by pointing him to these
resources, but he doesn't seem to want it.
The other point is to please think when replying to a post to the whole group.
Many of the tangents that become way way way off topic could easily be handeled
off-list. I think we're still above 1000 members and I'm sure 998 don't care
about some of the personal tangents that go on for days (TAM is one of recent
note).
