Try the LaserJet 5MP driver instead. That has worked for me
before on various IR-equipped HP LaserJet models, although I
tried it with a new HP this weekend at a local computer emporium
and it didn't work. I didn't spend too much time trying to
figure it out but I fear this may be the harbinger of a new HP
IR interface protocol that is no longer compatible with the
Newton's 5MP driver. :-(
