In my experience, serial support is sort of a mixed bag under OS X. One
problem is that only a few Mac models that support OS X have true serial
ports.
In my case, I have something called a "cubeport" which replaces the
built-in 56K modem with serial port on my Cube. The drivers required to
make this work won't load under classic so in classic on my computer,
there's no serial support. However, I have compiled a UNIX program under
OS X which does use the serial port and it does work.
So my theory is that if it doesn't require a special driver for the
serial ports, it should work.
