Not really.
However, it does depend on your needs...
I did some strong comparison shopping before I decided to go back to the
Newt. I looked at the palm sized Pocket PC's from HP, Casio, and Compaq.
They are getting better.
Here are some quick observations of Pocket Office:
- Pocket Outlook works okay for the most part. Small screen doesn't help.
- Pocket Explorer works very well. Having said that, handheld Pocket PC
screen is really too small to view internet pages. The Pocket PC's with
keyboards like the HP720, however, are very nice. Nice plus, you can log
onto secure sites.
- Word. Limited. Not all functions are supported on the Pocket PC
version. Just compare the size of the app! Complex documents are not
supported.
- Excel. Limited. Again, not all functions are supported o the Pocket
PC version. Not all formulas will import correctly. Not sure about
Macros. IMHO, Quicksheets on the Newt or Palm is just as good, if not
better.
- PowerPoint. Rediculous on the Pocket PC. For the handheld versions,
no support, the last I knew. For Pocket PC devices with a keyboard, you
can import and view your slides. You cannot edit or create a new slide.
You can reorder slides. And it is possible to change text on a
header(cover) slide. But that is about it.
Of course, at least from what I've seen, is that MSFT touts that there is
total integration. IMHO, if you want total integration, get a Windows
laptop. The palm sized Pocket PC's aren't there yet.
For now, I will stick with my Newt... Lot's of screen real estate.
Fairly fast. Good apps. Easy to use. :-)
