I have to laugh here...

the New Yorker recently ran a story on the creation of Microsoft PowerPoint,
with amusing tidbits about the people who created those annoying blob-man
figurines that we're all so used to by now (you know, scratching their head,
light bulbs, and all), and it was the weird realization that these things
happened SO RECENTLY. I mean, haven't things always been this way with the
icons and UI and all? What do you MEAN, somebody had to INVENT the icon for
the happy Mac and restart bomb?!? And how cool to find out that one person
was responsible for so much of the imagery that we use (and was open minded
enough to be cross platform about the whole thing, something we should all
strive toward just a wee bit more).

Totally mind boggling how the mind forgets that things were once different.
