With Victor's help, this is in the faq's(IIRC).

The '3 am'-thing is only the 'To-Do's' section of 'Dates' app. The Newt.
rolls over any 'to-do's' for the next day. It only takes 2-10 seconds.
If you never use the 'to-do's', get 'to-do cleaner' from standalone.com,
it's freeware and should minimize problems.
'Sunrise' doesn't wake the Newt. at all.

Careful, how you set the prefs. for 'sleep' either stock or third-party
extension, will keep the Newt. awake. Watch those prefs.!
