I am sure you will get plenty of references , but the site below was - for me
that is - the easiest to work with.

One caveat: The diagram of the DIN-8 is as seen when you are looking at the
female connector , the male side (that is the connector on the actual cable)
is the mirror image of this. This is BTW mentioned quite clearly on the page
itself, but - WRT Murphy's Law - I thought it prudent to repeat it.

The site below gave me a lot of useful information (the good stuff is at the
end) to make my Newton modem cable. If you choose your (PC) serial cable
carefully (unlike me <G>), you can make it out of the leftovers of the first
cable.

All these sites say you have to solder the cables together, but twisting and
taping, although aesthetically not as pleasing, give an equally acceptable
result.
