<<Xerox Wins Patent Infringement Case Against Palm, 3Com>>

I read an article about this a month or so back, while the case was still on-going. I was going to fwd. to list, but wanted to see the outcome first. Even if the current graffiti isn't exactly what Xerox developed, it was considered close enough to violate the patent. So what does that mean? All the wonderful dreams we all have of a new PDA (sometime soon) with similar / better HWR may be shot, if Apple holds the patents on the HWR, or the implementation of how that HWR software works. Someone who develops something new but uses similar concepts may have to pay a license fee to Apple, which thus prohibits them from ever wanting to bother to develop it. I'm curious to see the outcome and fallout of this case, and how it may effect other technologies.
;-(
Here's hoping my fears aren't true.
