uh...we're talking "abandon-ware" here...the Mac Plus
was retired with honors...the IIvx was abandoned 3
weeks after being placed on the Apple purchase list
with no upgrade path. This was one of those machines
that Apple was sued over for promising that the
machines would not be abandoned and would have an
upgrade path, only for Apple to re-neg (gee, doesn't
that ring a pallor tone) and inform everyone who
purchased the $2,900 device, that there was no upgrade
available, nor will there be an upgrade...In other
words, their recommendation was to upgrade by
purchasing the Centris 630. (my company I worked for
at the time purchased a bunch of these machines based
on Apples promise of upgrades) Which had the '040 chip
and could run the new software...Apple lost that law
suit...along with several others brought against it
for shady practices...(I bet if someone investigated
Apple's monopolizing strategies the way Microsoft's
was, they'd find just as many skeletons!)
