I had a digital camera destroyed by rechargeable alkalines that
overheated. According to the mfg. rechargeable alkalines should not be
used in "high current drain devices" (I count my Newt in this category)
where NiCads are more appropriate. To their credit, the Co replaced the
camera.

Someone just released 1800 mAhour (!!) rechargeable NiHM bateries - try
batteries.com or other sources; around $4 each battery, $35 for 4 plus
charger. Just ordered 8 + charger.
