Typically you have two sets of batteries on your Newton. You have a Lithium
backup battery, which supplies just enough power to maintain settings, and
then you have AA or AAAs which actually power the unit. As long as one of
those is always supplying enough charge, you'll be fine. The nice thing
I've found is that you can leave the AAs in and replace the Lithium battery,
and not lose any settings.
