There should be enough depth to allow for the screw WITHOUT
cutting it.
Certainly, my two units have the screws tightened fully without
length modification.
Perhaps what is happening is that the bottom of the hole gets
clogged with plastic shavings as the screw cuts for the first time.
My suggestion would be to run the screws in fully without the board
then blow the shavings out.
