[NTLK] Line-out vs Headphones

I am considering creating an audio-out plug for my Newton, to take advantage
of the MAD MP3 player. Does anyone know whether you can plug a set of
headphones into the line-level output? If yes, which headphones would work?
If not, would it damage the Newt, and is there a suitable pre-amp available
that I could use instead of building one?
