Wow, Bob, Wow!
OK, I downloaded it and tried it.
First time it threw a long error number. This was when using
Eskimo.com, my main e-mail account. I found out they only
support IMAP2bis, not IMAP4, so I am guessing that's why
SimpleMail choked. Most every other modern e-mail client
supports IMAP4 and I presume this is where the really useful
functionality is.
OK, then I tried setting up a free IMAP4-capable e-mail account
at fastmail.fm. It works great -- but is just like a POP
account. I can't see that any of the IMAP features really are
implimented, other than basic downloading of messages. You can
select "Browse" or "Download", and it works exactly like using a
UIDL-enabled POP3 server. About the same speed and functionality
as far as I can tell.
Creation of server folders, moving/copying and synchronization
of server/local folders all seem unimplimented.
So... I love seeing progress on the Newton e-mail front, but am
a bit in the dark about what's "so darn exciting" about this
implimentation of IMAP. Am I missing something here?
