BTW I also went to an official apple reseller today and asked them about
ordering me in a serial adapter. They told me the Newton was obsolete
and they can't get in any parts.

This seems to be in disagreement with the FAQ:

Dongles are still available through Apple. It is listed in their
"service" catalogue and are available from your Apple reseller.

The cost is $38 Australian (US$ 19).

Perhaps I should try someone who will look at their service catalogue
instead of just telling me categorically that the part is not available?
