I think there is a bit of confusion due to the poor interface design in
NTK. In addition, you're trying to use an application that is hardcoded
to run on a Mac that has basically 2 serial ports: one that is called
the printer port, which is really a serial port but can also be use for
AppleTalk, and the modem port, which is really a serial port.

Now, I'm sure you'll see that having to specify the port when you select
AppleTalk is totally irrelevant. AppleTalk couldn't work under the modem
port, only through the printer port. Further, your iBook doesn't even
have those ports.

I'm therefore pretty sure that if you pick "AppleTalk", it doesn't
matter which port you pick. If you have configured AppleTalk to use
Ethernet, that's how it's going to connect, no matter which port is
selected in the NTK preferences. Not having an iBook, I would even
imagine that when you open the AppleTalk control panel, you won't have
any choice beside maybe AirPort or Ethernet for your AppleTalk
connection, since your iBook doesn't have this legacy printer port.

What may be tricky here is your Keyspan adapter.

But the real question remains: are you actually able to launch and use
NTK under OS X.1???
