And this, brother, is where you are missing it. All the previous mp3 player=
s
have been nothing more than geek toys. They are too much of a hassle for a
normal person to deal with or to bother learning. The iPod brings a new
level of simplicity to the field. From now on, all other mp3 players will b=
e
referenced to the iPod. Whether or not the iPod is a financial success (and
it _won't_ be bundled. Apple has never done anything like that. It's one
thing to admit defeat, and it's another to remind all you customers of your
defeat, by foisting it off on them...) as I was saying, whether or not the
iPod is a financial success still doesn't change the fact that it has upped
the ante--raised the bar--brought mp3 players to a new level of simplicity
and usability. This is its claim to fame. It is also why I believe that it
is a keeper. I've never even seriously considered an mp3 player before, and
I'm suddenly wanting one, even though I have no real use for one. :-) Why?
Because I'm not concerned about capacity or flexibility or power as some
think it (geeks, to be blunt) but in simplicity and elegance and usability.

To bring this back on topic, the Nomad is the Newton, and the Palm is the
iPod. Not in the same way, however, but in this respect, the Palm brought
the PDA to the average Joe. It raised the bar for simplicity and portabilit=
y
and basic usability. It was the success that the Newton couldn=B9t be, becaus=
e
it was too complex and different, and so darn big, and it certainly wasn't
seemless. Not, mind you, that it isn't elegant and sophisticated, because i=
t
is, but in the case of PDAs, it wasn't what the average joe wanted or
needed.=20

I may be wrong, but I think I'm right in my assessment, but only time will
tell.

BTW, it's not wise to judge the iPod as you have, simply because you hate
Job's guts. Your prejudice is showing, and colors everything you are saying=
,
making your arguments worthless, as they can't be trusted.
