Yes.....

You can use several modems:
- The Motorola PM100C (PCMCIA Card)
- The Novatel Merlin (PCMCIA Card)
- The AirLink Raven II (Serial device)

The PM100C is history, but there are probably a great many available from
carriers - for very cheap,
if not maybe even for free (if you prod them enough). The carriers bought
tons of them in the mid 90's and
many have them sitting on shelves still to this day. They would love to get
rid of them if they could.

The Merlin is available from Novatel, carriers, resellers (GoAmerica, etc)
or on eBay.

The Raven is available from carriers or direct from AirLink at
www.airlink.com.
The Raven connects to the serial port and will use SLIP or PPP scripts to
connect.

All of these will work well. The PC cards have some issues, primarily due to
PCMCIA card and socket service issues -
not really communications issues. The Raven avoids those because it uses teh
serial link and has it's own power supply.
