Hi List!

Finally, my US Newt is there! Yehaa!

At first, I would like to thank Ralf Neerfeld who took all the trouble of
getting the load over from mr2ndhand, testing & remailing them. Everything
happened with perfect timing, although the Newtons seemed hidden at the
taxoffice over easter which stretched shipping time to one week, it arrived
just in time for my first lecture on Monday.

Ralf, thank you very very much! :)

Impressions:
This Newt seems basically new! The coating is close to 100% perfect, the
printing on the case is perfect, the display is perfect, the backlight is a
good bit brighter than my old one... there was a little goo on the -
otherwise perfect - flap that was rubbed away with ease.
First thing to do was to put on my last NuShield, then I did a restore from
my German 2100, no hassle there, erased a lot of the common English words I
had added to the personal word list as I do not need them there anymore. I
think I will search for that "germanize your US-Newt" PKG and install it as
well.
It also came with a nice original Apple 4MB card, stylus (busted tip, no wa=
y
I'm going to use that one), charger, and one of those rare RS-232 cables
with an *integrated* dongle.
Very cool cable, makes me wish for some sort of usage that involves an
RS-232 port... wait, my Mother's cellphone came with a RS-232 cable... yes,
yes, yes...

My little green herd:
After the cloning, the US Newt replaced the German one in my C.E.O. case
(the best thing I have used up until now, just BTW) and I set them up side
by side. The screen of the new one seems clearer overall, the backlight is
brighter and hums half a tone below the old one, the coating is darker as
well. The OMP hopped circles around the two huge humming battleships,
beeping in excitement.

Now I seriously want some sort of killer 2Player game that can be played
head to head via infrared.

It also is a very good feeling to have a full set of backup hardware now.

Happy,

Oliver :)
