Hi all,
I'm trying to print to a HP LaserJet 4 printer with an MP2100 via the =
serial
port on the printer. When I hit print on the Newton the printer spits =
out a
'40' error. I checked it out at
http://www.mj-printers.com/repair/hpcodes.html :
40 ERROR (DATA TRANSFER ERROR)
1. Computer and printer may be set to different baud rates.
2. Computer is powered off.
I had PrintPack 2 installed but removed it when I realised it only =
worked
with the special serial to parallel adaptor. Now I can only select HP
Deskwriter. With this printer selected, I still get a '40' error but =
the
newton comes back with "Lost contact with the printer". The baud rate =
on the
printer was 9600. I changed this higher and lower but with the same =
result.=20
From looking at an old FAQ it appears this printer is natively =
supported
(don't have the URL but it was by Jean-Christophe Bousson, =
JC_at_easynet.co.uk
- search for "nwtfaq_html") but according to the FAQ (IIB8) the article
http://karchive.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=3D19483 says it is =
not
supported without a Print Pack.
Has anybody had any success printing to the LaserJet 4?=20
=20
As ever, I'd appreciate any help.
If ppl still want vendor feedback, I bought a 2100 from MacEasy with no
problems. (They have some spares going - www.maccables.com I think) The =
only
sticking point was that, as I live in the UK, I was hit hard by customs =
and
was charged =A330 on top. So try and buy from the UK if you live here.=20
regards,
Shabaz
